Nigeria: We Will Create 113,000 Jobs in the Next Four Years - Oshiomhole

Benin — AS the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Edo state kicks off their governorship campaign this weekend, the Adams Oshiomhole Campaign Organization yesterday disclosed plans to industrialize the state and create 113,000 jobs in the next four years of this administration.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the organization, Kassim Afegbua and former House of
Representative member, Patrick Obahiagbon, who briefed newsmen, said the organization intends to focus on issues during the campaigns and would not be involved in any form of mudslinging in order not to divert the attention of the electorate.
Afegbua disclosed that after a thorough research by the Economic Team of the Campaign organization on the needs of the people, there is a possibility of $500 million investments in the state in the next four years.
According to him, some of the investments and expected cost of investment included the generation of 1,000 jobs in a 450 megawats power plant under the Independent Power Project (IPP) to be built in collaboration with the state government. This he said would cost $600 million.
Besides, he said there was a plan to build an ultra modern shopping centre in the state capital that would create 6000 jobs at the cost of N12 billion.

Afegbua also stated that there would be the construction of an industrial estate that will create about 100,000 jobs at the cost of $3 billion to be funded through direct investment and PPP and then a trailer park that would create another 500 jobs besides the establishment ofIronigbe rubber plantation project that would create 2000 jobs.
He added"Presco Oil, a palm production plantation company was also demanding for additional land space of about 8,0000 hectares to expand its production and then to create 3000 jobs.The aim is to create platforms that will make Edo sons and daughters employable and get something to eat, earn something at the end of the month and this would also check the cases of insecurity.
"The policy framework of Oshiomhole's second term will be centred on job creation 113,000 jobs are to be created that will improve on the economic wellbeing on an average Edo person. The total package of this expected investment is about half a billion dollars of foreign direct investment, interventions in the state, the World Bank which is already keying in the areas of due process, transparency and accountability. It has approved $225 million to be used in phases and specific areas of development.
In his brief remarks, Obahiagbon on his part said the election is not about ethnicity but about the state. "We are happy that our candidate who is very sellable is not a Bini candidate, we are happy that our candidate is not an Esan candidate, we are happy that our candidate is not an Afenmai candidate, we are happy that our candidate is an Edo candidate".
